Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Disassembly of oil filter
(1) Oil filter base
(2) Seal
(3) Oil filter element
(4) Oil filter housing
(5) Drain plug
Remove drain plug (5) and the seal from the bottom of the filter housing. Allow oil from the filter housing to drain into a suitable container.
Remove oil filter housing (4). Discard the used oil filter element (3) that is inside of oil filter housing (4). Additional oil will drain when you remove the filter. Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
Inspect seal (2) on oil filter base (1). If the seal is damaged, replace the seal with a new seal.
Install new oil filter element (3) into oil filter housing (4).
Install oil filter housing (4) and the new element (3) into filter base (1). Tighten the housing to 75 5 N m (55 4 lb ft). Do not use an air wrench to tighten.
Install drain plug (5) and seal into the filter housing. Tighten drain plug (5) to 37 2 N m (27 2 lb ft).
Make sure that the transmission is in NEUTRAL. Start the engine and operate the engine at low idle. Check for any leaks and make the necessary repairs.
Observe the oil level when the oil is warm and the transmission is in the NEUTRAL position.
Stop the engine. If necessary, add oil.
