Removal Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjustment and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, “Cat dealer Service Tool Catalog” for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, “Cooling System Coolant - Change”.

Remove bolts (4) and the retainer from the water pump.
.Remove the bolts and retainer (2) from elbow (1).
Remove the bolt from support bracket (5) . Remove tube assembly (3).

Attach a suitable lifting device to water pump (8). The weight of the water pump (8) is approximately 38 kg (85lb). Remove bolts (6), bolts , (7) and water pump (8).

Use the following guidelines for handling the water pump:
Do not cause radial movement of the pump drive shaft. Never use any Tooling that will cause radial movement of the shaft.
Never place the water pump on a surface so the shaft rests on the surface.
Never handle the water pump by the shaft.
