PRIORITY - PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR REPLACING ENGINE OIL FILLER TUBE ON CERTAIN M312, M315, M313C, AND M315C WHEELED EXCAVATORS.
MODELS INVOLVED - M312, M315, M313C, and M315C Wheeled Excavators.
Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The engine oil filler tube needs to be replaced on the M312, M315, M313C, and M315C Wheeled Excavators listed below. The existing oil filler tube can crack and result in an oil leak. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 30Nov2007 when scheduling this service.
We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, but urge you to have this service performed as soon as possible to prevent unscheduled downtime.

Rework Procedure
Refer to appropriate Service Manual as needed.
1. Drain the engine oil.
2. Remove the existing oil filler tube and gasket.
3. Locate the assembly on the sump and start the setscrews by hand.
4. Ensure that the oil filler and gasket assembly are correctly aligned and tighten the setscrews to a torque of 22 Nm +/- 2 Nm.
5. Refill the oil sump to the correct level using the oil specified in the OMM and fit the new 130-9888 Oil Filler Tube Cap and O-ring Assembly.
6. Run the engine and check for leaks. Rectify as necessary.
