Information:
Engine exhaust contains products of combustion which may be harmful to your health. Always start and operate the engine in a well ventilated area and, if in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.
When the engine is in the AUTOMATIC mode, the engine can start at any moment. To avoid personal injury, always remain clear of the the engine when the engine is in the AUTOMATIC mode.
Before manually starting the engine, perform all the procedures that are described in this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Before Starting Engine". Ensure that no one will be endangered before the engine is started and when the engine is started.
Do not engage the starting motor when flywheel is turning. Do not start the engine under load.If the engine fails to start within 30 seconds, release the starter switch or button and wait two minutes to allow the starting motor to cool before attempting to start the engine again.
For initial start-up of a new or rebuilt engine, and for start-up of an engine that has been serviced, make provision to shut the engine off should an overspeed occur. This may be accomplished by shutting off the air and/or fuel supply to the engine.
Note: The AGC is the primary means of starting and operating the unit, not the EMCP. If started via the EMCP, the variable frequency drive (VFD) will not run in Remote/Auto mode. The VFD must be turned ON in local mode to operate the cooling fans if the unit is started via EMCP.When starting the engine during various scenarios listed in this manual, the engine startup sequence will include the following steps:
Start request initiated (locally or remotely)
Prelube pump will run for the programmed length of time if:
Prelube is enabled in ECM software
AC power is available from the power distribution panel
The engine will crank (but not run) after prelube time is completed. This is considered purge time to clear the system from unused gas.
The gas valves will be opened after purge time is complete, and the engine will start/run once the gas lines are filled.Idle/Rated Operation

(1) "Idle/Rated" Switch (IRS) locationThe "Idle/Rated" switch (inside the control panel) enables engine idle running mode. If the switch is set to the idle position, then the engine will run at a reduced speed and the generator breaker will not close. Idle running mode allows the engine to warm up at reduced speed. Idle running mode can also be used to spin-dry the generator if heaters have not been energized for a long time prior to startup. If the switch is set to the rated position, then the engine will run at the rated speed.
