If administered after failure, use "96" as theWarranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code. The information supplied in this serviceletter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. ACTION REQUIRED
Visually inspect the engine for valve spring breakageand the light yellow valve spring color code when performing a scheduledvalve lash check, fuel timing check, or any time the valve cover of theengine is removed. Inspect the 7C4273 Valve Springs to determine if ithas a light yellow paint stripe. If a valve spring has a light yellow paintstripe or if a valve spring has already broken, replace all of the 7C4273Valve Springs in that engine.If there was no damage from the broken spring,it is not necessary to remove the cylinder head. For replacing the valvesprings without removing the cylinder head refer to the Service Magazinedated May 15, 1989, Page 5, "New Valve Stem Seal Used On Inlet Valves AndAdded To Exhaust Valves". The Parts Required include twelve 7C4273 ValveSprings and a new 1192940 Valve Cover Gasket.Note: If there was no damage from the brokenspring, it is not necessary to remove the cylinder head.
