Personal injury could be the result if air lines (3) are disconnected when there is still air pressure in the air system. To prevent personal injury open the bleed valves on the air tank to release the air pressure in the air system.
1. Pull the steering column away from the instrument panel.2. Disconnect two air lines (3) from the bottom of the retarder selector control valve.3. Remove two bolts (1) and clamp (2).4. Remove retarder selector control valve (4) from the steering column. 5. Install retarder selector control valve (4) on the steering column.6. Install clamp (2) and two bolts (1) that hold the retarder selector control valve in place.7. Connect two air lines (3) to the bottom of the retarder selector control valve.Disassemble Retarder Selector Control Valve
START BY:a) remove retarder selector control valve 1. Remove setscrew (2) and handle (1) from the cam.2. Remove O-ring seal (3) from the cover.3. Remove lockring (4). 4. Remove screws (6) and cover (5) from the body.5. Remove cam and follower assembly (7) from the cover. 6. Remove adjusting ring (8) from the cover. 7. Remove piston assembly (9) and the spring from the body.8. Remove screws (10) and the valve assembly from the body.9. Remove the O-ring seals from the piston assembly and valve assembly.Assemble Retarder Selector Control Valve
Put clean 1P808 General Purpose Lubricant on all valve parts before assembly.1. Install O-ring seal (1) on the valve assembly and O-ring seal (2) on the piston assembly.2. Put the valve assembly in position in the body and install screws (4) to hold it in place.3. Install spring (3) and the piston assembly in the body as shown. 4. Install adjusting ring (5) in the cover so it is even with the top of the cover as shown. 5. Install follower (6) in cam (7). Install the cam and follower assembly in the cover as shown. 6. Install gasket (9) on the body.7. Put the cover in position on the body with passages (8) in alignment. Install the screws that hold the cover on the body. 8. Remove the two unions from the body. Install tool (A) in the delivery passage as shown and connect an air hose (11) to the supply passage as shown. The air hose must have at least 620 kPa (90 psi).9. Use handle (10) to turn the cam and check the first (initial) and last (final) pressure. 10. Remove the handle and adjusting ring (5) until the first (initial) pressure is 190 20 kPa (27 3 psi) and the last (final) pressure is 550 35 kPa (80 5 psi).11. Remove the air hose and tool (A). Install the unions in their original positions. 12. Install O-ring seal (13) on the cover. Install lock ring (12) to hold adjusting ring (5) in place.13. Put the handle in position on the cam and install setscrew (14) to hold it in place.END BY:a) install retarder selector control valve
