( 1 ) Cut to a length of 100 mm (4 inch)
Inspect all parts and clean all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged , use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

Install Tooling (B) into the two threaded holes in the top side of differential (3) . Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (B) . Lift differential (3) onto a suitable pallet fork. The weight of differential (3) is approximately 280 kg (617 lb). Use the pallet fork and position differential (3) under the machine.

Apply Tooling (D) to the contact surface of axle housing (3) before installing Tooling (A) (not shown). Lower a suitable lifting device between the rails of the chassis and attach the lifting device to Tooling (B) .

Lift differential (3) into position. Slide differential (3) over Tooling (A) before pushing the differential into axle housing (8) .Note: Rotating the input yoke for the differential in order to align the splines on the internal shaft with splines in the axle housing may be necessary.

Install nine bolts (6) and nine washers (7) in order to secure differential (3) to axle housing (8) . Remove Tooling (A) (not shown) in order to install two bolts (4) and two washers (5) . Tighten bolts (6) and bolts (4) to a torque of 270 40 N m (200 30 lb ft).

Connect hose (2) to differential (3) and tighten retaining nut (1) .End By:
Fill the center differential and final drives with oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil - Change".
Install the parking brake. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Parking Brake - Install".
Install the center axle shafts. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Axle Shaft - Install".
Install the center drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Center Drive Shaft - Remove and Install".
Remove Tooling (C) and lower the dump body or the water tank.
