Problem
The lower bucket pin, and top boom pin retainer bolts may loosen on certain 992G Wheel Loaders. This can allow the pin to move out of the bore, resulting in a loss of oil and possible galling of the pin and bearings. Improvements to the bottom retainer will prevent bolt loosening. The pin retainer needs to be replaced on the bucket pins and modified on the upper boom pin. The improvements provide larger bolts, thicker plates and improve the position of the pin in the retainer. To properly distribute stresses throughout the linkage when the bottom system is replaced, the top bucket system must be replaced as well. Improvements to the top retainer system will distribute the stresses equally and help prevent binding in the joints and reduce leaks.

Rework Procedure
1. Rework the "A" pin flag retention block.2. Drill all 4 holes in the block to 14.25mm. Counter drill the block holes 12mm deep with an 18mm drill for bolt stretch.3. Tap all 4 holes with a 16X2 - 6H mm tap4. Reassemble using (4) 7X-2555 bolts, (4) 9X-8257 washers, and (1) 165-5570 30mm thick retention strap.5. Measure end play in the A jointa. Center boom between frame and push A pin flag until it bottoms out on the retention block.b. Measure distance between outside of flag surface and retention strap.- If gap is greater than0.040" (1.0mm) thenthegap will need to be shimmed.6. Remove 165-5570 retention strap and rotate pin flag away from the retention block throat.a. Take measurement found in step 5b. above and subtract 0.040" (1.0mm). This is the space that will need shimmed.b. Halve the shimmering space and shim equally on the inside of the retention strap, and the throat of the retention block.c. Weld shims in place to the retention strap, or the retention block, do not weld to the flag of the pin. On very small shims you may need to build up weld in these areas and grind smooth to act as shim material.EX.)Once the pin has been pushed to the bottom of the retention block the gap measures to be 0.120in (3.048mm).(0.120in - 0.040in. = 0.080in). 0.080in
