Industrial EngineC9.3 (S/N: CS91-1475; C9N1-1537; D9N1-5570)Description Of Change: The new starters used are made of more robust materials to help prevent overheating due to prolonged cranking cycles.Adaptable To: The following changes are adaptable to the products within the listed serial numbers, and are effective with all products after the listed serial numbers.The new 520-6650 Electric Starting Motor Gp is for the left-hand side of the engine. The new 520-6649 Electric Starting Motor Gp is for the right-hand side of the engine.The new M105R starter does have different cross sectional geometry that increases the envelope size.
The new starters larger envelope should be considered for installation and checked for clearance.The new M105R starter is equipped with pin type connectors for the wiring harness, whereas the current IMT starter uses ring type connectors.
If replacing an existing IMT starter on an engine in the field, the wiring harness will require modification to accommodate the new M105R starter.
The new M105R starters have a Left-Hand and Right-Hand configuration.Replacement of IMT starters will take place in two stages:
Stage 1: M105R starters will be compatible with SAE-1 Housing (6/8 pitch ring gear of Flywheel).
Stage 2: Implementation date TBD. Stage 2 M105R starters will be compatible with SAE-2 Housing (8/10 pitch ring gear of Flywheel).Common parts used with the starters are listed in Table 1.
