Fire Extinguisher
Be sure that a fire extinguisher is available. Be familiar with the operation of the fire extinguisher. Inspect the fire extinguisher and service the fire extinguisher according to the recommendations on the instruction plate.Do not weld or do not drill holes in the ROPS/FOPS protective structure in order to mount a fire extinguisher.A fire extinguisher may be mounted on the ROPS/FOPS protective structure by strapping the mounting plate to one leg. The size of the fire extinguisher should be over 4.5 kg (10 lb). Mount the fire extinguisher as low as possible on the leg. Never mount the fire extinguisher on the top one-third length of the leg. Be sure that you do not cover the ROPS/FOPS plate when you mount the fire extinguisher.Fire Extinguisher Mounting (If Equipped)
Two bosses are located on the lower portion of the right leg of the ROPS/FOPS structure. The bosses provide a solid mounting for a bracket for the fire extinguisher.Ether
Ether is poisonous and flammable. Inhaling ether vapors or repeated contact of ether with skin can cause personal injury. Use ether only in well ventilated areas. Do not smoke while you replace ether cylinders. Use ether with care to avoid fires. Do not store ether cylinders in living areas or in the operator's compartment.Do not store ether cylinders in direct sunlight or at temperatures above 40°C (102°F). Discard ether cylinders in an approved place. Do not puncture ether cylinders and do not burn ether cylinders. Keep ether cylinders out of the reach of unauthorized personnel.Lines, Tubes and Hoses
Do not bend high pressure lines, and do not strike high pressure lines. Do not install lines, tubes or hoses that are bent or damaged.Repair lines, tubes and hoses that are loose or damaged. Leaks can cause fires. See your Caterpillar dealer for repair or replacement parts.Check lines, tubes and hoses carefully. Do not use your bare hand to check for leaks. Use a board or cardboard to check for leaks. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fluid Penetration" in the Safety Section for more details. Tighten all connections to the recommended torque. Replace the parts if any of the following conditions are found:
The end fittings are damaged.
The end fittings are leaking.
The outer covering is chafed or the outer covering is cut.
The wire shield is exposed.
The outer covering is ballooning locally.
There is evidence of kinking or crushing in the flexible part of hose.
The armoring is embedded in the outer cover.
The end fittings are displaced.Make sure that all clamps, guards, and heat shields are correctly installed in order to prevent the following problems:
Vibration
Rubbing against other parts
Excessive heat during operation
