When the engine oil temperature is less than 15° C (60° F), the C175 engine shuts down due to low oil pressure within 30 seconds of start-up.Solution
Use the following methods to help avoid the shutdown:
Install an oil heater to warm the oil in the pan to a temperature above 15° C (60° F).
Replace the CJ-4 oil with the CI-4 that is more capable of flowing under cold conditions.For information and for part numbers for CI-4 oil, refer to , PELJ0212, "Cat® DEOTM (Diesel Engine Oil) CI-4 Multigrade". The memo is available from the Global Sales Library at gsl.cat.com.Note: C175 Engines require 40 weight oil.
For cold-weather applications, use Cat DEO-ULS SYN 5W-40. Refer to , PELJ0974, "CAT DEO-ULS SYN Full Synthetic Diesel Engine Oil SAE 5W-40" for oil specifications.Cat DEO-ULS SYN 5W-40 has been reformulated for Canada and the USA. The new formula does not have the issue with plugging of the oil filter.Use of the Cat DEO-ULS SYN 5W-40 does not require other supplemental corrective actions to address the low oil pressure issue.For more information, refer to the following publications that are available at the Global Sales Library:
