Travel motor (1) Rear flange (2) Barrel (3) Piston (4) Timing plate (5) Swashplate (6) Motor shaftThe travel motors convert hydraulic energy into rotating action. Pressure oil from the main pump enters the travel motor through rear flange (1) , and the oil passes through the brake mechanism. The oil is then routed through timing plate (4) into cylinder barrel (2) .The timing plate has ports that align with pistons (3) . The oil enters the port in the cylinders that are aligned with the inlet. The oil pushes the pistons (3) , and the pushing force is converted into rotation by the swashplate (5) . The shaft is splined to the barrel (2) , and the rotation of the barrel turns the motor shaft (6) . The oil flows out of the motor through the outlet in the timing plate (4) . For reverse rotation, the oil enters through opposite ports in the timing plate. The swashplate (5) can be positioned at different angles against the body of the travel motor. When most the swashplate is seated against the body of the travel motor, the motor displacement is large. This large displacement accounts for the low speed position. By pressing the travel speed switch for high speed, the operator activates the high speed. The swashplate is then positioned so that the displacement is small. This results in higher speed. The swashplate is moved by the actuator piston. When the switch for high speed is depressed, pilot oil flows from the travel speed solenoid in the pilot manifold. The pilot oil forces the actuator piston to decrease the angle of the swashplate.Low-Speed Travel

The motor will only destroke when the two-speed solenoid valve (14) is energized. Brake piston (18) is also released when travel is activated. When the travel motor rotates, components in the final drive rotate. Planetary gears (17) cause ring gear (20) to turn and drive the track. The rotary section (final drive) of the travel motor consists of a two-stage simple planetary gear train. The final drive reduces the output speed of the motor in order to produce high torque.Displacement Change Valve
