If necessary, replace the two filters in the pump housing at location (1) .
Failure to follow the recommended procedure or the specified tooling that is required for the procedure could result in damage to components.To avoid component damage, follow the recommended procedure using the recommended tools.
If necessary, replace plug (2) and the seal.Note: The cardboard sleeve is required in order to slightly stretch the inner diameter of the seal. This will prevent any damage to the seal when the seal is installed on the pump shaft. Remove the cardboard sleeve when the shaft is ready for installation.
Use Tool (A) to install the seal in the housing. Be certain that the lip of the seal is facing the impeller. Use clean engine oil on the lip of the seal.

Install shaft (3) in housing (4). Install washer (5) and the bolts that hold shaft (3) in the proper position.

Note: Only clean water is allowed as a lubricant during the assembly procedure. Do not allow the wear surfaces of the carbon ring or the ceramic ring to be touched or damaged. Install the ceramic ring so that the smoothest face of the ring is facing the carbon seal.
Position ceramic seal (6) in the rubber ring. In order to install the ceramic seal, use hand pressure and the tool that is included with the replacement seal assembly.

Remove the spring from seal (7). In order to install the seal, use hand pressure and the tool that is included with the replacement seal assembly. Push the seal onto the shaft until light contact is achieved between the seal faces.

Install spring (8) on the carbon seal.
Position impeller (9) on the pump shaft, as shown.

Install washer (10) and nut (11). Tighten nut (11) to a torque of 200 25 N m (147.5 18.4 lb ft).

Tighten the studs for cover (12) to a torque of 27 4 N m (19.9 2.95 lb ft) in the pump housing.
Apply clean engine oil to O-ring seal (13). Install O-ring seal (13) on cover (12). Install cover (12). Install the nuts that hold cover (12) to the pump housing.End By: Install the water pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Pump - Install" for the correct procedure.
