GENERATOR SET,
Information:
Never add coolant to an overheated engine, allow the engine to cool first.Do not use Caterpillar cooling system conditioner with Dowtherm 209 Full-Fill coolant. Follow the recommendations provided with Dowtherm 209 Full-Fill coolant.Do NOT add liquid cooling system conditioner monthly unless the machine has actually operated 250 service hours. Adding cooling system conditioner before 250 service hours will give an excessive concentration of conditioner.
If the cooling system was drained and refilled, see the topic "Cooling System" under "Every 2000 Service Hours or 1 Year."It may be necessary to drain enough coolant to allow for the addition of cooling system conditioner.Add 1/2 liter (1 pint) of Caterpillar cooling system conditioner, or equivalent, to this cooling system. This will maintain the required 3% concentration of conditioner.Make-up coolant should contain a 3% concentration of conditioner - 1 liter of conditioner per 33 liters of water (1 pint per 4 gallons). 1. Loosen the radiator cap slowly to relieve any pressure. Remove the radiator cap.2. Add 1/2 liter (1 pint) of cooling system conditioner. 3. Inspect the radiator cap gasket and replace it, if it is damaged.4. Install the radiator cap.Fan Bearing
Lubricate
Lubricate one fitting.Belts
Inspect - Adjust
Fan
Inspect the condition and the adjustment of the belts. Replace the belts in sets only, if one or more are worn or damaged.Alternator
1. Inspect the condition and the adjustment. The belts should deflect 14 to 20 mm (9/16 to 13/16 inch) under 11.5 kg (25 lb) force. 2. Loosen the alternator mounting bolts.3. Move the alternator until the belts are tight.4. Tighten the alternator mounting bolts.5. Measure belt deflection.6. Readjust if necessary.Brake Fluid Reservoir
Check Fluid Level
1. Remove the lid retainer from the lid.2. Remove the lid from the reservoir. Inspect the brake fluid level. The level must be within 1 cm (1/2 inch) of the top of the reservoir. Add brake fluid if necessary.3. Inspect the seal in the lid. Replace the seal, if it is damaged.4. Install the lid and the retainer. 5. If the red light on the dash comes on after the brake fluid reservoir has been inspected and filled, inspect the brake pads for wear and the system for leaks. Make any necessary repairs, before the machine is returned to work.Service Brakes
Test Holding Ability
Be sure the area around machine is clear of personnel and obstructions.Be sure the steering frame lock link is in stored position.Test the brakes on a dry, level surface.Fasten the seat belt before testing the brakes.
1. Start the engine, and raise the shear head slightly. Apply the service brake (right brake pedal only) and release the parking/emergency brake. 2. With the service brake applied (right brake pedal only), shift the transmission to 2nd speed forward.3. Gradually increase the engine speed to high idle. The machine should not move.
If the machine begins to move, reduce the engine speed immediately and apply the parking/emergency brake.
4. Reduce the engine speed to low idle, shift the transmission to NEUTRAL. Apply the parking/emergency brake, lower the shear head to the ground and stop the engine.
