Change Oil - Wash Breather
Operate the engine long enough to warm the oil. The machine must be level. Lower the attachments with slight down pressure. 1. Remove the transmission drain plug. Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.2. Clean and install the drain plug. 3. Remove the floor plate.4. Remove the cover. Remove the transmission screen and breather. Wash screen and breather in clean nonflammable solvent.5. Install screen and breather. Install the cover. Install the floor plate. 6. Remove the oil fill cap. Add oil. See the Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities chart in the Maintenance Section of this manual. 7. Maintain the oil level to the FULL mark on the dipstick.8. Clean and install the oil fill cap.Final Drives
Change Oil
1. Remove the final drive fill plug (1).2. Remove the drain plug (2). Allow the oil to drain.3. Inspect the drain plug seal. Replace the seal if damaged. Clean and install the drain plug.4. Fill the final drive to bottom of fill plug opening. See the Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities chart in the Maintenance Section of this manual.5. Inspect the condition of the fill plug seal. Replace the seal if damaged. Install the fill plug.6. Repeat steps on the other side of machine.Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS)
Inspect
Inspect for any loose or damaged bolts. Replace damaged bolts or missing bolts with original equipment parts only. Retighten bolts to a torque of: 100 15 N m (75 11 lb ft) for 1/2 inch bolts.360 50 N m (270 37 lb ft) for 3/4 inch bolts.570 80 N m (420 60 lb ft) for 7/8 inch bolts.875 100 N m (640 75 lb ft) for 1 inch bolts.Replace ROPS mounting supports if the ROPS rattles or makes a noise when the machine is operated on a rough surface.Do not straighten or repair by welding reinforcement plates to the ROPS.Contact your Caterpillar dealer for repair of cracks in welds, castings or any metal section on the ROPS. Apply oil to all ROPS bolt threads before installing. Failure to apply oil can result in improper bolt torque.Hydraulic System
Change Oil
Operate the machine long enough to warm the oil. Park the machine on level ground. Lower all attachments to the ground with slight down pressure. Engage parking brake. Stop the engine. 1. Remove the hydraulic system oil tank filler cap.2. Wash the filler cap in clean, nonflammable solvent. 3. Remove the oil drain plug, located under the right rear of machine. Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container. 4. Change the hydraulic system filter(1). See Hydraulic System in the Every 500 Service Hours or 3 Months section.5. Fill the hydraulic system oil tank(2). See the Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities chart in the Maintenance Section of this manual.6. Inspect the filler cap gasket. Replace the gasket if damaged.
