HYDRAULIC CONTROL,
Information:
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Position the rear wheel so that the final drive drain plug is at the lowest point.
Remove the drain plug and allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
Clean the drain plugs and install the drain plugs.
Repeat Step 1 through Step 3 for the other rear wheel.

Remove the differential drain plug and allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
Clean the drain plug. Install the drain plug.
If the ambient temperature at engine start-up or during operation is below -10°C (14°F), perform the procedures in Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine and Machine Warm-Up". Check the differential compartment and the final drive compartment for the proper fluid level. Failure to warm-up the oil or improper lubrication levels prior to operation will cause damage to the machine.

Remove the differential filler plug. Wipe the plug and the surfaces around the opening before you fill the differential. Fill the differential. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities". Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)".
Maintain the differential oil level to the bottom of the filler plug. Install the filler plug.

Remove each final drive filler plug. Fill each final drive. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities". Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)".
Maintain the final drive oil level to the bottom of the filler plug. Install the filler plug.
Operate the machine on level ground for a few minutes.
Stop the machine. Check the oil level. Add oil, if necessary.Note: Correct oil levels are critical in the differential housing. Check the oil level after repairs and after maintenance. Check the oil level prior to operation.Note: Overfilling the differential and final drives will cause overheating and foaming of the oil in long hauling applications and high-speed applications. A reduction of the life of components may be the result of overheating and foaming of the oil.
