Left Side of Machine
(1) Screed lift cylinderTwo screed lift cylinders (1) are at the rear of the machine on the left and right side. The left screed lift cylinder is shown. The screed lift cylinders operate in unison. The cylinders raise and lower the screed and are also used for the screed-assist and screed-float functions.

(2) Screed travel lock valve
(3) Screed travel lock solenoidScreed travel lock valve (2) and screed travel lock solenoid (3) are at the rod end of each screed lift cylinder. The left screed travel lock valve is shown.Screed travel lock valve (2) prevents the screed from being lowered. To lower the screed, screed travel lock solenoid (3) must be energized.

(4) Cylinder bypass valve
(5) Auger lift cylinderTwo auger lift cylinders (5) are at the rear of the machine on the right and left side. The left auger lift cylinder is shown.Auger lift cylinders (5) raise and lower the augers. The auger cylinders are connected in a series hydraulic circuit. The rod end of the left cylinder is connected to the head end of the right cylinder. The left auger lift cylinder has a slightly larger diameter than the right cylinder. The larger diameter in the left cylinder allows the right and left augers to be raised and lowered at the same rate. Each auger lift cylinder (5) is equipped with cylinder bypass valve (4). The bypass valve is located near the head end of the cylinder.

(6) Bypass valve
(7) Rod
(8) Ball
(9) SpringThe cross section view above illustrates the auger lift cylinder and internal components. The cylinder bypass contains bypass valve (6) installed in the cylinder wall. The auger cylinders retract as the augers are lifted. When a cylinder nears full retraction, oil in the head end of the cylinder acts against ball (8). The oil pressure overcomes force from spring (9), and a passage opens between the head and rod end of the cylinder. The open passage allows the two auger lift cylinders to synchronize at the top of the cylinders stroke.

(10) Tow point cylinderTow point cylinders (10) are on each side of the machine. The left tow point cylinder is shown.Tow point cylinders (10) raise and lower the tow point. When the tow point is raised, the angle of attack of the screed is increased. When the tow point is lowered, the angle of attack of the screed is reduced.

(11) Hopper cylinderHopper cylinders (11) are on each side of the machine. The left hopper cylinder is shown. The left and right side compartment doors allow access to the cylinders.Hopper cylinders (11) raise and lower the hopper wings. The hopper wings are used to move paving material onto the conveyors.
