System Installation and Uninstallation
This machine offers three types of security systems:Pass Code Security - If equipped with a secondary display, Pass Code Security can be enabled by selecting "Security" in the Service > Configurations > Machine > Operator ID menu. This operation will enable a numeric code entry screen on the display that must be entered to operate the machine.Electronic Key Security - Electronic Key Security requires specialized ignition keys and key reader hardware to perform security. If hardware is present on the machine, it can be enabled in Cat Electronic Technician (ET) via the "Advanced Machine Security System" setting.Electronic Key Security With Pass Code Backup - This method will allow a pass code to be entered via the secondary display to unlock security when a valid electronic key is not available. If a valid electronic key is available, security will be unlocked immediately at key on and there will be no pass code prompt on the display. This configuration can be enabled in Cat Electronic Technician (ET) by setting both the "Advanced Machine Security System" and "External Authentication Device" parameters to Installed. To uninstall security, set the appropriate “External Authentication Device” setting and/or “Advanced Machine Security System” to Not Installed. Subsequently, select the “Machine Security System Uninstall” option in the Service Menu to complete the uninstallation. Consult your Cat Dealer.Pass Code Security (If Enabled)
Basic Operation
Move the ignition key to the run position to power the secondary display and load the pass code entry screen. The default pass code when the system is initially enabled is 1111. The user will have five attempts to enter a valid pass code. After five invalid attempts, the display will block code entry for 15 minutes. When a valid code entry is received, the display will prompt the user that engine operation is allowed. Refer to the "Engine Starting" section for the normal starting procedure.
Illustration 1 g06263410When the user stops the machine by transitioning the ignition key from run to off, the display will prompt the user to lock security or keep it unlocked.
Press OK and security will lock within 30 seconds. The next time the operator turns on the ignition key, they will be prompted to enter pass code.
Press X to leave security unlocked for 15 minutes. The operator will not be prompted for pass code if they turn the ignition back on within 15 minutes.

The default action is to keep security unlocked for 15 minutes if no choice is received within 10 seconds.Electronic Key Security (If Equipped)
Machine Security System (MSS) - Machines that are equipped with a Caterpillar Machine Security System (MSS) can be identified by a decal in the operator station. MSS is designed to prevent theft of the machine or unauthorized operation.Basic Operation
MSS may be programmed to read a standard Cat key or an electronic key. The electronic key contains an electronic chip within the plastic housing for the key. Each key emits a unique signal to the MSS. The keys can be identified by a gray housing or
