Do not allow a companion to ride on the machine unless the companion is seated within the Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS) or Falling Object Protection Structure (FOPS) with the seat belt fastened. The companion must have the seat belt fastened while the machine is in operation. The operator of the machine is responsible for the safety of the companion. Personal injury or death may occur if the companion is not restrained and protected.
Diesel engine exhaust contains products of combustion which may be harmful to your healthAlways start and operate the engine in a well-ventilated area and, if in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.
Adjust the operator seat and fasten the seat belt.
Engage the parking brake.
Engage the steering and transmission integrated control (STIC) lock.
Deactivate the implement controls with the implement/hydraulic lockout switch.
Before the engine is started, check for the presence of bystanders or maintenance personnel. Ensure that all personnel are clear of the machine. Briefly sound the forward horn before you start the engine.
Turn the engine start switch key to the ON position. The monitoring system starts. Allow the monitoring system to complete the automatic self-diagnostic test Note: For more information on the monitoring system, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Monitoring System".
Turn the engine start switch key to START. Release the engine start switch key after the engine starts. Note: Ether will be automatically injected if the ambient conditions call for the use of a starting aid.
Do not crank the engine for more than 30 seconds. Allow the starter to cool for two minutes before cranking again. Turbocharger damage can result if the engine rpm is not kept low until the oil gauge display verifies that the oil pressure is sufficient.
Note: This machines engine with standard specifications can start in areas that have temperatures as low as −18°C (0°F). For areas that are cooler, the use of cold weather starting aids is recommended.Note: For temperatures below −23 °C (−10 °F), consult your Cat dealer for additional information or refer to Special Publication, SEBU5898, "Cold Weather Recommendations".
