Fingers can be burned from hot pins and bushings.The pins and bushings in a dry joint can become very hot. It is possible to burn the fingers if there is more than brief contact with these components.
Striking the end of a track pin introduces a significant amount of end play into the track joint and can result in early failures.

During the machine operation, listen for unusual squeaking and for unusual squealing. These noises can indicate a dry joint.
Check all track components for excessive wear.
Check for dry joints immediately after machine operation. After machine operation, lightly touch the end of each track pin or bushing. Make a mark on any dry track pin joint that is hot.
Do not hit the ends of the track pins with a sledge hammer in order to loosen the track joints. Consult your Cat dealer Custom Track Service expert if you detect dry joints or leaks. Your Cat dealer Custom Track Service expert can perform track inspection.
