198-4240     Digital Pressure Indicator     1
Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Prepare the machine for troubleshooting.Reference: Refer toTesting and Adjusting, "Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting" for the machine that is being serviced.

(1) Implement pump. (2) Pressure tap (discharge pressure). (3) Pressure cutoff valve. (4) Pressure tap (load signal pressure).
Connect the 198-4240 Digital Pressure Indicator to pressure taps (2) and (4) .
Warm the hydraulic oil to normal operating temperature. Normal operating temperature is 45 °C (115 °F) to 70 °C (160 °F). Use the following procedure in order to warm the hydraulic oil.
Operate the engine at 1800 RPM to 2000 RPM.
Extend the lift arms until the cylinders bottom out.
Operate the tilt cylinders back and forth until you reach the normal operating temperature.
Lower the felling head to the ground.
Increase the engine speed to 2350 50 RPM.
Actuate any one of the following functions into a stall condition:
Lift cylinders
Tilt cylinders
Grapple arm cylinders
Collector arm cylinders
Record the readings from pressure taps (2) and (4). The pressure reading from both of the pressure taps should be approximately 26200 175 kPa (3800 25 psi).
If the recorded pressure for the high pressure cutoff is not correct, perform Steps 10 through 12.
If the recorded pressure of the high pressure cutoff is correct, perform Steps 13 through 15.
To adjust the high pressure cutoff setting, loosen the locknut on pressure cutoff valve (3) .
Actuate any one of the following functions into a stall condition:
Lift cylinders
Tilt cylinders
Grapple arm cylinders
Collector arm cylinders
Turn the adjustment screw on pressure cutoff valve (3) until the pressure reading from both of the pressure taps read approximately 26200 175 kPa (3800 25 psi).
Release the function that is in the stall condition. Tighten the locknut on pressure cutoff valve (3). The high pressure cutoff is now set to the correct pressure.
Move the hydraulic control lever lock to the LOCKED position.
Stop the engine. Remove the test equipment.
