PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR INSPECTING AND POSSIBLY REMOVING 0R-8200 CYLINDER PACKS FROM DEALER PARTS STOCK

This Revised Service Letter replaces the 11Aug2008 Service Letter. Changes have been made to correct the Mail Code numbers.

PROBLEM
Some 0R-8200 Cylinder Packs were found with the incorrect 4P-8996 Piston. The incorrect piston may result in hard starting and white smoke after engine start-up.
ACTION REQUIRED
Inspect all 0R-8200 Cylinder Packs in parts stock with a date code label prior to July 1, 2008 for the correct piston. The date code is located on the part number tag on the outside of the packing box. The date code appears as a DDMMYY code (ie. D01M07Y08 = July 1, 2008).
The 0R-8200 Cylinder Packs should be equipped with a 172-3280 Piston. The part number of the piston is located on the top of the piston.
Cylinder packs equipped with the 172-3280 Piston should be repackaged in the original packaging and returned to dealer parts stock.
Cylinder packs NOT equipped with the 172-3280 Piston should be removed from Dealer Parts Stock.
SERVICE CLAIM ALLOWANCES
Submit one claim for all parts removed from dealer parts stock.
PARTS DISPOSITION
Please ignore the normal 15 day holding period requirement. All parts returned must have a Core Credit Request (CCR) entered into CMIS2 to allow for core credit refund to be processed. Remember to document your Cat warranty claim number on the CCR to ensure 100% core credit is processed for the returned parts.
