Diesel engine exhaust contains products of combustion which may cause personal injury.Always start and operate the engine in a well ventilated area, and, if in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.
Personal injury can result from rotating and moving parts. Stay clear of all rotating and moving parts.Never attempt adjustments while the machine is moving or the engine is running unless otherwise specified.The machine must be parked on a level surface and the engine stopped.Attach a "Do Not Operate" or similar warning tag to the start switch and controls before servicing, repairing, or making adjustments to the machine.
Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.
Drive the machine to a smooth, horizontal surface.
Lift the screed and fully retract the screed extenders. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual of the tractor for this procedure.

Install screed lock mechanisms (1). Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual of the tractor for this procedure.

Remove five bolts (2) and remove end plate (3) in order to access pivot pin.

Straighten the lock tab on lock washer (5). Use Tool (A) to remove outer half of nut (6). Remove the lock washer.
Use Tool (A) to tighten inner half of nut (4) to a torque of 542 27 N m (400 20 lb ft).
Install lock washer (5). Locate a tab on lock washer and bend the tab in order to lock inner half of nut (4) .
Use Tool (A) to tighten outer half of nut (6) to a torque of .

Tighten bolt (7) to a torque of 81 14 N m (60 10 lb ft).
Tighten nut (8) to a torque of 81 14 N m (60 10 lb ft).

Use Tool (B) to check clearance between pivot plates (9). Check clearance on the top of the plates, above the bolt as shown in Illustration 6 and above the pivot as shown in Illustration 6. Clearance between the plates should be less than 0.5 mm (0.02 inch ). The clearance should decrease closer to the bolt joint and closer to the pivot joint.
If the clearance between plates (9) is outside the specified range, perform Step 13.
.Add hardened shim washers in order to reduce the clearances. Use Tool (C) to adjust the clearance at the pivot pin. Use Tool (D) to adjust the clearance at the bolt.
