Rework Procedure
Image 1.1.1 shows an example of a cracked hood.

1. Remove the hood per applicable steps in Disassembly / Assembly Manual, RENR8223. Check to see if there is clearance between the left and right hood supports and the top horizontal surface of the radiator guard. (See Image 1.2.1) If there is not a minimum of 1mm to 2 mm of clearance, create 1 mm to 2 mm of clearance by miniminally grinding away the top horizontal surface of the radiator guard near the support location(s).

2. Install new hood support assemblies.
3. Repair crack(s) in hood using approriate sheet metal repair techniques.
4. Reinstall hood per applicable steps in Disassembly / Assembly Manual, RENR8223.
If the hood stops (See Image 1.5.1) are worn, the addition of shims may be required. After the hood and new hood support assemblies are installed, measure the lateral clearance between the left hood support and the hood stop and then measure the lateral clearance between the right hood support and the hood stop. (See Image 1.5.1.) Add the two measurements together to obtain the "Total Clearance".
If the "Total Clearance" is greater than 8 mm, shims need to be added to eliminate the "Total Clearance". Install shims in equal amounts to both sides.
If the "Total Clearance" is less than or equal to 8 mm, no shims are required.
