When submitting claim for Parts Stock Action, Use the appropriate 99Z as the s/n, the appropriate Service Letter Program Number as the Part number in the Part Causing Failure field, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Description Code.
The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program.Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.
This Revised Service Letter replaces the 04Jan2010 Service Letter. Changes have been made to Action Required.

PROBLEM
The existing valve cover bases could have been manufactured with cross-drilled oil holes that are out of position. If this hole is out of position it has the potential to starve the valve mechanism of oil.
ACTION REQUIRED
Inspect all 247-8340 Valve Cover Bases in dealer parts stock for the "Rico India" marking on the exhaust side of the valve cover base, as indicated by the arrow and circle in Image1.
The additional symbol that has been circled in Image1 is for locational reference only to indicate the exhaust port marking.
- If the "Rico India" marking appears on the base, return the part to the original packaging, mark the package to indicate it has been inspected according to this service letter, and return the part to dealer parts stock. No further action is required.
- If any other marking appears in place of "Rico India", remove the part from dealer parts stock.
