Stanisol or APCO 140 can cause skin irritation. To avoid, wear rubber gloves during the cleaning process.
This piston is coated with a preservative to protect it from corrosion. Before the piston is installed in an engine, the preservative must be removed. Wear rubber gloves, and with a brush or a rag, apply either Stanisol or APCO 140 to the piston to remove the preservative.After the preservative has been removed, use a solution of liquid detergent, with little or no chlorine content, together with water. A good detergent is liquid Wisk, but any low-chlorine soap will do an acceptable job. If Wisk is used, mix 240 ml per 3.8 liters (8 liquid ounces per two gallons) of water. Wash the piston in this solution to remove the cleaning agent used to remove the preservative. Remove any shipping plugs that may be in piston holes.
