Machine or Trailer Towing
Towing a trailer or attachment with mechanical defects could affect the steering or braking performance of the towing machine. Do not tow a trailer or attachment if it is not fully serviceable and fit for its intended purpose. Poor steering or braking performance could cause personnel injury or death.
The maximum towing load should not be greater than 40800 kg (90000 lb). Note: The maximum towing load includes the weight of the trailer and the load on the trailer. The maximum tongue weight of a trailer should not be greater than 2727 kg (6012 lb). A trailer that applies minimal weight to the tongue of the machine is preferred. The tongue of the trailer should be horizontal while the trailer is pulled.Towed trailers are required to have working braking systems.The machine should be in first gear in order to tow a trailer or another machine. Place the motor speed switch in the TORTOISE position in order to start towing a machine or a trailer. A loaded trailer can only be towed with the motor speed switch in the TORTOISE position.The operator can change the motor speed switch to the RABBIT position after the machine is started in the TORTOISE position. Only switch the motor speed switch from the TORTOISE position to the RABBIT position when the trailer is empty or when travel is without a trailer.Stop the machine immediately and stop the machine safely if the transmission indicator lamp comes on. Stopping the machine will prevent damage.If a trailer hitch is installed the hitch should be anchored to the rear and to the underside of the carbody.
