7-3 Measuring Procedures
(1) Loading weight 1. Load the required amount of weight into the bucket with a crane. * If sand is to be used as the weight for this test, load sand of 1.5 in specific gravity into a standard bucket. bucket.* Load sand into the bucket in accordance with the CECE, SAE bucket loading standard. (2) Warm up the engine in accordance with the instructions in the Operation Manual. * After warming up the engine, confirm that the water temperature gauge needle has reached the green zone.(3) Set the hydraulic oil temperature to 50 5°C (122 9°F) in accordance with the instructions in the Operation Manual. (4) Natural drop test for boom and arm cylinders. 1. Start the engine, extend the bucket cylinder fully to its maximum limit, retract the arm cylinder fully to its maximum limit, raise the boom up to a height where it becomes parallel with the ground, then stop the engine.2. Before performing the measurement, measure the length of boom cylinder rod with a scale. * L1: the length of rod before the measurement.* To obtain the correct measuring results, start the test immediately after setting the position for the test. 3. Measure the amount of contraction of the boom cylinder rod in 1 minute with a scale. * L2: indicates the length of the rod after 1 minute has elapsed.* Find the test result from the formula below and compare it with the performance standard.* Formula: L1 - L2 = rod contraction(5) Natural falling test for arm cylinder. 1. Install the hydraulic excavator in the same posture as that taken when the natural falling test was carried out for boom cylinder. * To obtain the correct measuring results, start the test immediately after setting the position for the test. 2. Measure the extended length of arm cylinder rod for one minute. * Measure the dropping amount of arm cylinder as shown in the left fig.* L3: the extended length of rod after the elapse of one minute.(6) Bucket cylinder natural drop test. 1. Start the engine, extend the bucket cylinder fully to its maximum limit, raise the boom to an appropriate height, stand the arm vertically against the ground, then stop the engine.2. Before measuring, the length of bucket cylinder rod must be measured. * L4: the length of the rod before measuring.* To obtain the correct measuring results, start the test immediately after setting the position for the test. 3. Measure the length of the bucket cylinder rod retracted in 1 minute with a scale. * L5: indicates the length of the rod after 1 minute has elapsed.* Determine the test result by the formula below and compare it with the performance standard.* Formula: L4 - L5 = rod contraction7-4 Performance Standards
