Installation Procedure

A 8S-1378 Stud Remover and Resetter Tool 1
Check all of the O-ring seals and the components for wear or damage. Replace the components, if necessary.
Lubricate all of the O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.

Install O-ring seals (20) on unit injector hydraulic pump drive (16).
Lubricate the bore and O-ring seals (20) lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.

Install unit injector hydraulic pump drive (16) in the engine.
Use the following procedure for installation of twelve point head bolts (18) and pin (19).
Install four twelve point head bolts (18). Tighten the four twelve point head bolts to a torque of 5 3 N m (44 27 lb in).
Install pin (19) and the O-ring seal. Tighten pin (19) to a torque of 105 10 N m (75 7 lb ft).
Tighten four twelve point head bolts (18) to a torque of 55 7 N m (41 5 lb ft).
Illustration 3 g00481702Note: Prior to installing front gear (13), the number one piston must be at TDC. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Finding Top Center Position For No. 1 Piston" for the correct procedure.
Place front gear (13) in position on the fuel pump gear cover. Align the timing marks on front gear (13) and the camshaft drive gear.
Install retaining plate (15) and four twelve point head bolts (14). Tighten the twelve point head bolts to a torque of 135 20 N m (100 15 lb ft). Note: The end of each of the speed sensors is retractable. Each speed sensor must be fully extended before installation.
If necessary, use Tool (A) (not shown) in order to install the stud to the engine.
Install two speed sensors (17). Connect the wire harness to speed sensors (17). Tighten the speed sensors to a torque of 40 5 N m (30 4 lb ft).

If necessary, use Tooling (A) (not shown) in order to install the taperlock stud in fuel pump gear cover (11).
Install a new gasket and fuel pump gear cover (11) to the front housing. Install ten bolts (10). Apply 7M-7456 Compound to the studs and install two full nuts (12).

Install clip (9).
Connect three hose assemblies (3), (4) and (6). Install a new tie strap (5).
Connect the turbocharger outlet pressure sensor (7) at the electrical connector. Connect atmospheric pressure sensor (8) at the electrical connector.

Install support assembly (3) and plate (2) on the engine.

Connect fuel temperature sensor (1) at the electrical connector. End By:
Install the fan drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan Drive - Install".
Install the unit injector hydraulic pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Unit Injector Hydraulic Pump - Install".
