Torque converter stall speed RPM
1700 50 Introduction
The torque converter stall test helps determine if the engine is producing the correct power output. This stall test is used in many diagnostic procedures.Test Preparation
Move the machine to a level area.
Engage the parking brake.
Shift the transmission to the NEUTRAL position.
Place the work tool flat on the ground.
Warm the transmission oil to a normal operating temperature of 95° 20°C (203° 36°F). Test Procedure

To ensure that the transmission oil does not overheat do not keep the torque converter in the stall condition for more than 30 seconds. After the torque converter stall test allow the transmission oil to cool before stopping the engine.
After the test is completed, allow the engine coolant and the transmission oil to cool. Stop the engine. If the torque converter stall speed is above the specified range, the engine power output could be too high. Another cause of the torque converter stall speed being above the specified range is excess slippage of the torque converter. If the torque converter stall speed is below the specified range, the engine may not be developing full power. Another cause of the torque converter stall speed being below the specified range is excessive parasitic load on the engine.
