Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the front hood panel. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hood Panels (Front and Rear) - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Cap all lines, all hoses, and all tubes and plug all lines, all hoses, and all tubes. This will help to prevent fluid loss and this will help to keep contaminants from entering the system.
Drain the cooling system to a level below the tank into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)".

Remove hose assemblies (1) from top radiator tank (2) .

Disconnect harness assembly (3) and remove clip (4) . Repeat the procedure for the opposite side.
Remove bolts (5) .
Use a suitable lifting device in order to remove handhold assembly (6) . The weight of handhold assembly (6) is approximately 34 kg (75 lb).

Note: Floor panels have been removed for photographic purposes.
Remove bolts (7) .
Use two people in order to remove panel assembly (8) . The weight of panel assembly (8) is approximately 27 kg (60 lb).

Remove clips (9) .

Attach a suitable lifting device onto top radiator tank (2) . The weight of top radiator tank (2) is 41 kg (90 lb).
Remove bolts (10) .
Remove top radiator tank (2) .
