Schematic for the Lift Linkage Position SensorThis diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM records a signal from the rotary position sensor for the lift linkage that is out of calibration. The rotary position sensor is pulse width modulation (PWM). The signal wire for the rotary position sensor connects to contact J2-35 (wire C530-BU) of the ECM.The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:
New software has been installed, and the sensor has not been calibrated.
The position sensor is above or the position sensor is below the calibration range for more than three seconds.System Response:The machine response is listed:
The implement features will not work.
The calibration procedure for the lift linkage will not work properly.
Snubbing for the lift cylinder may not function properly.
The calibration procedure for the implement valves may not function properly.Note: Ensure that the diagnostic code is active and that the diagnostic code indicator is active.Test Step 1. CHECK CALIBRATION
Calibrate the Lift linkage position sensor. See Testing and Adjusting, "Position Sensor for the Lift Linkage (Electronic Technician) - Calibrate" or Testing and Adjusting, "Position Sensor for the Lift Linkage (Caterpillar Monitoring System) - Calibrate".
Ensure that the diagnostic code is active.
Observe the ON/OFF status of the diagnostic code indicator as the lift arm is fully raised and fully lowered.Expected Result:The diagnostic code indicator is inactive.Results:
YES - The diagnostic code indicator is inactive.Repair: The diagnostic code is inactive now. Calibration corrected the diagnostic code. Clear the diagnostic code. Stop.
NO - The diagnostic code indicator is active.Repair: The diagnostic code remains active. It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Perform calibration for the rotary position sensor again. Also, ensure that the diagnostic code indicator is active for this diagnostic code. If the cause is not found, replace the sensor and perform the calibration again. If this does not eliminate the diagnostic code, replace the ECM. If a fault becomes active, it is possible that the mounting for the sensor may be loose. The mounting should be checked. See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace". Stop.
