following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 0177 FMI 08 is active before performing this procedure.Test Step 1. CHECK FOR POWER AT THE SENSOR
Do not disconnect the sensor from the harness connector.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.Note: Use the 146-4080 Digital Multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.
At the back of the harness connector for the sensor, insert a 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the voltage supply contact A (wire X800-OR).
At the back of the harness connector for the sensor, insert a 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the return contact B (wire J764-BR).
Measure the voltage from contact A to contact B.Expected Result:The voltage measurement is 8 0.5 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage measurement is 8 0.5 VDC. The power supply for the sensor is correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The voltage measurement is less than 8.0 0.5 VDC. The power supply for the sensor is not correct.Repair: The 8 VDC sensor power supply circuit is malfunctioning. Refer to Troubleshooting, "MID 081 - CID 0041 - FMI 03 and FMI 04" to resolve this problem. STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE SIGNAL AT THE SENSORTurn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position. The sensor remains connected to the harness.
At the machine harness connector for the sensor, use a 151-6320 Removal Tool, or a similar tool, to remove the (wire 428-OR) signal wire and socket at contact C from the harness connector. The machine harness connector, and contacts A and B, remain connected to the sensor.
At the back of the sensor connector, insert one 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the sensor signal contact C. Insert the other 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the sensor ground contact B.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Measure the duty cycle at the sensor connector contacts B and C.Expected Result:The duty cycle of the temperature sensor is within the range that is shown in the table at the beginning of this procedure.Results:
OK - The duty cycle of the sensor is within the range that is shown at the beginning of this procedure. The sensor is not the cause of the problem. Reconnect the signal wire and socket in the machine harness connector for the sensor before proceeding to the next step. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The duty cycle of the temperature sensor is NOT correct according to the table at the beginning of this procedure. The sensor has failed.Repair: Replace the sensor. After replacement of the sensor, verify that the operation of the new sensor is correct before operating the machine.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE SENSOR CIRCUIT WIRES IN THE HARNESSTurn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
At the machine harness connector for the Transmission ECM, insert one 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the
