Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, and on all harness assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Turn the fuel supply to the OFF position.

Open hood assembly (1) .

Disconnect harness assemblies (4) and (7). Disconnect hose assemblies (2).
Use Tooling (A) in order to remove secondary fuel filter (3) from fuel filter base (6). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System Secondary Filter - Replace".
Remove bolts (5) and remove fuel filter base (6) .Installation Procedure

Position fuel filter base (6) and install bolts (5). Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 35 6 N m (26 4 lb ft).
Install secondary fuel filter (3). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System Secondary Filter - Replace".
Connect hose assemblies (2). Connect harness assemblies (4) and (7) .
Turn the fuel supply to the ON position. Prime the fuel system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime" for the correct procedure.

Close hood assembly (1) .
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
