Removal Procedure
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the oil from the engine into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the engine oil with filter is 64.4 L (17 US gal).

Remove bolts (1) and sheet (2) .

Remove bolts (3) and sheet (4) .
Drain the engine oil.

Disconnect wiring harness (7). Remove bolts (6) and front oil pan (5) .

Note: O-rings, gaskets, and seals should always be replaced. A used O-ring may not have the same sealing properties as a new O-ring. A reconditioning procedure should not be degraded because of a low cost component such as an O-ring or a gasket. Use 1U-6396 O-Ring Assembly Compound during the assembly procedure.

Position rear oil pan (13) and install bolts (12) .

Position oil pan (9) and install bolts (8) .

Position front oil pan (5) and install bolts (6). Connect wiring harness (7) .

Position sheet (4) and install bolts (3) .

Fill the engine with oil to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Viscosities and Refill Capacities".
