COVER GP-VALVE MECHANISM 2637823 - Caterpillar

1. Remove three bolts (2) and four nuts (3). Remove bolt and remove yoke. 2. Use two 3/8 " - 16 NC forcing screws, and remove input clutch and cage assembly (1) from the winch case. The input clutch and cage assembly weighs 20 kg (44 lb). 3. Remove input clutch assembly (4) from cage (1). Be careful not to drop the input clutch assembly, or it may be damaged. 4. Use tooling (A), and remove lip seal (5) from cage (1). Remove O-ring seal (6) from the cage. 5. Remove bearing (7) from shaft shaft (8) with tooling (B). 6. Use a press and tooling (A) to remove shaft assembly (8) from clutch assembly. Remove spacer (9). 7. Remove retaining ring (11), washer and two O-ring seals (10) from the shaft. 8. Use a press and tooling (A), if necessary, to remove seal assembly (12), spacer (14) and bearing (13) from the shaft. 9. Remove gear assembly (15) from clutch assembly. 10. Remove bolts and remove gear (15) from hub (16) (not shown). 11. Remove two bearings (17) from gear (15) using tooling if necessary. 12. Remove retainer (18). 13. Remove eight springs from retainer (later models have six springs). Remove retaining ring (19), and remove plate and discs (20). 14. Turn the clutch assembly over, and remove retaining ring (21). 15. Turn the clutch assembly over again, and use a soft hammer to remove manifold (22). 16. Remove piston (23). 17. Remove O-ring seals (24) from piston (23). 18. Remove retaining ring (26) from clutch housing (25).Assemble Input Clutch
1. Clean and inspect all parts. Replace parts that are worn or damaged. 2. Install retaining ring (26) into clutch housing (25). 3. Install manifold (22) into clutch housing (25). 4. Install retaining ring (21). 5. Put two O-ring seals (24) on piston (23). Put clean SAE 30 oil on O-ring seals (24), and install piston in clutch housing (25). 6. Lubricate the plate and discs with SAE 30 oil. Install four plates and three disc assemblies (20) into housing (25). Alternate plate, disc, plate, disc, starting with the large plate on top. Make alignment of the teeth on the three disc assemblies. 7. Install the retaining ring (19).
Retainer (18) may be equipped with eight springs. When the springs are reinstalled or replaced with new parts, only six springs are required. The six springs must be installed so there is a space between every three springs.
8. Install six springs (27) into the retainer (18). Be sure there is a space between every three springs. Install retainer into housing (25). 9. Install hub (16) into housing. The teeth on hub (16) must engage with the teeth on the disc assemblies. 10. Heat bearing (17) to a temperature of 135°C (275°F), and install on shaft. Install spacer (14) with bevel away from the bearing. 11. Thoroughly lubricate seal assembly (12) and (28) with clean SAE 30 oil. Install seal carrier and O-ring seal assembly (28) with the groove or
