Remove the rear wheel bearings and Duo-cone seal kits. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel, Brake and Suspension (Front) - Remove" for the correct procedure.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury can result from hot oil or hot components.At operating temperature, oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns.Remove the fill cap only when the engine is stopped, and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
Prevent the contamination of the hydraulic system when the hose assemblies and the components are removed from the machine. Contamination of the hydraulic system with foreign material will reduce the service life of the hydraulic system components.
Note: The following procedure shows the removal of the service and parking brake (rear) on the left side of the machine. This procedure can also be used for the service and parking brake (rear) on the right side of the machine.

Be ready to collect approximately 75.8 L (20.02 US gal) of oil from service and parking brake (rear) (1).
Remove drain (2) and O-ring seal (3). Note: After the oil is drained, replace O-ring seal (3) and drain plug (2).

Disconnect hose assembly (4).
Remove O-ring seal (5), elbow (6), and O-ring seal (7).
Remove three bolts (9), the three washers, and O-ring seal (10). Disconnect tube assembly (8).

Disconnect hose assembly (14).
Remove O-ring seal (16), elbow (17), and O-ring seal (18).
Disconnect hose assembly (15). Note: In this procedure, the pictures show an installed hose assembly (15) of the parking brake release. During the removal of the final drive and the wheel assembly, Steps 7 and 8 may have been completed.
Remove O-ring seal (11), elbow (12), and O-ring seal (13).
Remove three bolts (19), the three washers, and O-ring seal (21). Disconnect tube assembly (23).
Remove 47 nuts (22) and the 47 washers.
Remove 21 nuts (20) and the 21 washers. Note: Leave two nuts (20) in place in order to retain the service and parking brake (rear) until Tool (A) and a suitable hoist have been installed.

Remove two bolts (24) and the two washers. Position Tool (A). Install the two washers and two bolts (24).
Support the service and parking brake (rear) with Tool (A) and a suitable hoist.
Remove remaining two nuts (20). Remove service and parking brake (1). The service and parking brake (rear) weighs approximately 854 kg (1882.7 lb).

Remove O-ring seal (21).
