Rework Procedure
3512C Flywheel Housing Epoxy Procedure
Required parts;
1x 143-9510 Applicator gun
1x 143-9508 Epoxy
1x 143-9509 mixing nozzle
1 meter 5P5995 vinyl tube, (only requires 7 cm?s )
1 can - Brake cleaner aerosol.
1 can - Electrical cleaner aerosol
Repair procedure;
1. Spray brake cleaner to clean the top joint area of the engine where the flywheel housing meets the cylinder block. A small brass/wire brush may be needed to remove excessive amounts of oil/dirt build-up. Be sure no oil is left on the surface. Use Scotch brite and wire brushes to remove as much paint as possible.
Note most Brake Cleaners do remove some paint, which is preferred.
2. After the surfaces have been thoroughly cleaned of all oil, paint and sealant approximately 1.2 inches (30mm) from the surfaces at the housing to block joint, spray a liberal coat of Electrical Cleaner allowing it to dry. Use a heat gun to be sure the surface is dry. Apply a second liberal coat of electrical cleaner and use a heat gun again to ensure the surface is completely dry and completely free of oil and paint. Allow the surface to cool to room temperature.
Note: The goal is to have a rough surface which is paint and oil free and completely clean to ensure the epoxy will adhere and seal the joint.
When applying the epoxy, use a 143-9510 Epoxy Applicator gun. It is recommended to have at least a 1 inch (25 mm) wide bead of epoxy at least ? inch (7mm) thick the entire length of the horizontal and sloping joint surface. The wider and thicker the epoxy is applied, the better.
Note; the end goal is to have a thick and wide area of epoxy applied to a clean rough surface.
To help reach the goals, cut the end of the mixer nozzle to increase the orifice size (See Illustration 1). Using a 2 1/2 inch length of 5/16 inch inside diameter clear vinyl hose (cut one end square and the other at 45 degrees), attach the hose to the application gun to aid in reaching the area needing epoxy applied.
Allow the epoxy to cure per the instructions which may take up to 24 hours.
