Schematic of the Control Valve (Programmable Hydraulic System)This diagnostic code is associated with the Boom Telescope Cylinder Extend Solenoid (module 2 of the control valve). This diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM reads the current of the control valve as being below normal. The possible causes are listed:
There is an open in the affected pilot solenoid circuit.
The PHS SSV4 has failed.
Short to ground on wire (133-OR).
Open circuit on wire (133-OR).
Dirty ground stud.
A poor ground connection.Note: Ensure that the fuse for the circuit is not blown. Check the circuit for a proper ground. System Response:Note: The following responses may occur simultaneously or the responses could occur individually. The machine response is listed:
The boom raise function and the boom lower function will not work properly.
The fork rack function and the fork dump function will not work properly.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 2281 FMI 05 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use the 146-4080 Digital Multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.Test Step 1. VERIFY SOFTWARE VERSIONNote: From SIS or the latest release of the CD for SIS check and record the latest software version for the machine electronic controls.
Verify the machine ECM has the latest software version loaded.
Verify that the valve ECM's have the latest software loaded.Expected Result:All of the software is up to date. Results:
OK - All of the software is up to date. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - There is a more recent software release available.Repair: Flash all controls with the latest software release. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Flash Program".STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE CONTROL VALVE FOR POWER.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from module 1 .
Perform the 44 N (10 lb) pull test on pin 5 and pin 8.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.
At the machine harness connector for the control valve, measure the voltage from contact 8 (133-OR) to contact 5 (205-BK).Expected Result:The voltage that is measured is approximately 12 DCV.Results:
OK - The voltage that is measured is approximately 12 DCV. The machine harness is correct. Proceed to test step 3.
NOT OK - The voltage that is measured is NOT approximately 12 DCV. There is an open in the machine harness. Repair: Verify that the fuse and the ground circuits are correct. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE REMAINS.
Clean the contacts of the harness connectors.
Reconnect all harness connectors.
Observe the status of the diagnostic code.
Operate the machine.
Observe the status of the diagnostic code.Expected Result:The diagnostic code is NO longer active. Results:
YES - The diagnostic code is NO longer active. The diagnostic code does not exist at this time. The initial diagnostic code was probably caused by a poor electrical connection and/or a short at one of the harness connectors that was disconnected and then reconnected. Resume
