2. Remove four bolts (3) and transmission oil filter (1) from the transfer gear case. Remove the O-ring seal from the filter adapter on the transfer gear case.3. Remove bolts (2) that hold the cover assembly to the transmission oil filter housing. 4. Remove cover assembly (4) and element assembly (5), as a unit, from the filter housing. 5. Remove nut (7). Remove element assembly (5) from cover assembly (4). Remove O-ring seal (6) from cover assembly (4). If necessary, remove the stud from cover assembly (4). 6. Remove plug (10), spring (9) and spool (8) from the filter housing. Remove the O-ring seal from plug (10). The following steps are for the installation of the transmission oil filter. 7. Check the condition of the O-ring seal used on plug (10). If the O-ring seal is damaged, use a new part for replacement. Install the O-ring seal on plug (10). Install spool (8), spring (9) and plug (10) in filter housing. 8. If the stud was removed from the cover of the transmission oil filter, reinstall it, and tighten it to a torque of 55 7 N m (40 5 lb ft). Check the condition of O-ring seal (6). If O-ring seal (6) is damaged, use a new part for replacement. Install O-ring seal (6) on cover assembly (4).9. Put element assembly (5) in position on cover assembly (4). Install nut (7) that holds it. Tighten nut (7) to a torque of 11 4 N m (8 3 lb ft). 10. Put cover assembly (4) with element assembly (5) in position in the filter housing. Install bolts (2) that hold cover assembly (4) to the filter housing.11. Check the condition of the O-ring seal used in the filter adapter on the transfer gear case. If the O-ring seal is damaged, use a new part for replacement.12. Install the O-ring seal in the filter adapter. Put transmission oil filter (1) in position on the transfer gear case. Install four bolts (3) that hold it.13. Be sure the drain plug in on the bottom of the filter housing is tight. Tighten the filter housing drain plug to a torque of 75 7 N m (55 5 lb ft).14. Check the oil level in the transmission. Refer to the "Operation & Maintenance Manual" for correct filling procedure.
