Always wear goggles when the air conditioning system is opened. This system is charged with Freon-12 (CCL2 F2-Dichlorodifluoromethane) which is not toxic or flammable. There is however a reason for caution. When Freon-12 makes contact with a flame, lethal phosgene gas is made. INHALING FREON THROUGH A LIGHTED CIGARETTE CAN CAUSE VIOLENT ILLNESS. This system is under high pressure at all times, engine running or not. HEAT MUST NEVER BE APPLIED TO A CHARGED SYSTEM.
1. Release the Freon-12 from the system. See AIR CONDITIONING AND HEATING, PURGING THE SYSTEM, Form No. SENR7454. 2. Pull thermostat lead (1) from the evaporator coil assembly.3. Remove seal (2) from each end of the coil assemblies. 4. Disconnect tube assemblies (5) from expansion valve (3).5. Remove bolts (6) from each end of the coil assemblies. 6. Remove evaporator coil assembly (4).7. Remove expansion valve (3) from evaporator coil assembly (4). 8. Use the 1/4" square drive wrench that comes with the machine to open panel (9).9. Disconnect wiring harness (8) from the fan motors.10. Remove two cotter pins (7). Remove panel (9) and condenser fan motors as a unit. 11. Remove six nuts and washers (11) from the back of the panel.12. Remove guard (10) from front of panel.13. Disconnect the wires from the fan motors and remove wiring harness (12) and clip. 14. Loosen the screws that hold the fans to the motor shafts and remove fans (13). 15. Remove bolts (15). Remove brackets (14) and motors from the panel as a unit. 16. Remove bolts (17). Remove motors (16) from the brackets. 17. Remove bolts and nuts (19) and pull fuse panel (20) out. Disconnect wiring harnesses (18) from the fuse panel and remove fuse panel (20). 18. Disconnect electric wires (22) and hose assemblies (21) and (23) from the dryer. 19. Remove bolt (24) from the bracket assembly and remove dryer (25).20. Remove nuts and bolts (27) and move magnetic switch (28) from the condenser. 21. Disconnect tube assembly (26) and hose assembly (29) from the coil. 22. Remove bolts (31) that hold each end of coil (30) and remove the coil. 23. Remove the control knob from the thermostat. Remove nut (32) and remove the thermostat from bezel (33). Disconnect the wires and remove the thermostat.Install Air Conditioner Group
1. Connect the wires to thermostat (1) and put it in position in bezel (2). 2. Install nut (4) to hold the thermostat in the bezel. Install control knob (3) on the thermostat. 3. Put condenser coil (5) in position in the machine and install the four bolts and washers to hold it. 4. Put magnetic switch (6) in position and install the bolts, washers and nuts to hold it to the end of the condenser coil.5. Check the seals in the hose and tube assemblies. Make a replacement of the seals if they are worn or damaged. Connect tube assembly (7) to the top of the coil. Connect hose assembly (8) to the bottom of the coil. 6. Put
