Inspect the Belts
For maximum engine performance and maximum utilization of your engine, inspect the belts for wear and for cracking. Belt slippage will decrease the belt life. Belt slippage will cause poor performance of the alternator, or any equipment that is driven by the belt.This engine is equipped with a belt tightener that automatically adjusts the belt to the correct tension.Alternator Belt

Turn the belt tensioner in order to release the tension from the alternator belt (1) .
Remove the belt.
Install a new belt.Generator Belt

Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

Open left side access cover (1), and left side upper hood (2) .

Disengage the clamps on the air filter cover, and remove air filter cover (3) .

Remove the two bolts (4) from the air filter supports.

Remove the two nuts (5) from the u-bolt that supports the air inlet manifold.
Remove the air filter housing and air inlet manifold.

Remove the two bolts (6) from the belt cover, and remove the belt cover.

Use a Cat belt tension relese tool in order to push and hold belt tensioner (7). Consult your Cat dealer for more information concerning the belt tension release tool.
Remove belt (8) .Install
Use a Cat belt alignment and diagnostic kit in order to ensure that the engine pulley and the generator pulley are aligned. Consult your Cat dealer for more information concerning the belt alignment and diagnostic kit.

Ensure that the surface of the engine pulley (9) and the surface of the generator support (10) are perpendicular. Adjust the generator support if necessary.

If necessary, use generator support bolts (11) in order to adjust the alignment of the pulleys.
Use the belt tension relese tool in order to push and hold belt tensioner (7). Consult your Cat dealer for more information concerning the belt tension release tool.
Install the new belt, and release the tensioner.
Ensure that the belt is tensioned.
Mount the belt cover
Mount the air filter housing and air inlet manifold.
