Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oils can cause burns.To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the work tool hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel circuits, and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch.

Retract the bucket and extend the stick. Lower the boom to Tooling (A). Lower the stick and the bucket to the ground.
Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".

Use two lifting slings and a hoist to support stick cylinder (1).

Disconnect lubrication hose assembly (2) at the head end of the stick cylinder.
Remove retaining bolt (4) from pin assembly (3).

Clean the threaded puller hole in pin assembly (3) prior to installation of Tooling (B). Use a lifting sling and a hoist to position Tooling (B). The weight of Tooling (B) is approximately 77 kg (170 lb).
Use Tooling (B) to remove pin assembly (3) from the head end of stick cylinder (5). Note: Machines may be equipped with shims between the stick cylinder and the stick at the pin joint. Put identification marks on the shims in order to show the location of the shims for assembly purposes.
Remove the shims (if equipped) at the pin joints for the stick cylinder and the stick.

Disconnect lubrication hose assembly (6) from the stick cylinder.
Disconnect three hose assemblies (9) from the stick cylinder.
Remove retaining bolt (7) from pin assembly (8).
Clean the threaded puller hole in pin assembly (8) prior to installation of Tooling (B). Use a lifting sling and a hoist to position Tooling (B). Remove retaining pin (8). The weight of the retaining pin is approximately 43 kg (95 lb).
Remove the stick cylinder from the machine. The weight of the stick cylinder is approximately 1066 kg (2350 lb).
