Tests And Adjustments
With all tests and adjustments that require a running engine, the machine must have the parking brake set, wheels blocked, and two people working, one at the controls and the other making the tests and adjustments.
Servicing hot, pressurized hydraulic systems. Allow system to cool down, relieve hydraulic pressure build up before opening or removing covers, caps, or hoses. Wear eye protection, gloves and any other items for safety.
A. Pump Flow Test With Flow Meter
1. Install a flow pressure tester between the pump and pressure output line. 2. Start engine and run at full throttle. 3. Flow pressure tester should read 8-11 gpm (30-42 Lpm). If reading is 7 gpm (26 Lpm) or less, repair or replace the steer pump section of the vibratory/steer pump.B. Pump Flow Test Without Flow Meter
1. Disconnect input line from steer system relief valve. 2. Place hose in a 5 gallon (19 L.) container. 3. Start engine and run at full throttle for 30 seconds. 4. Shut machine "OFF". 5. Container should contain 3 to 4 gallons (11 to 15 L.) of hydraulic oil.6. If there is 31/2 gallons (13 L.) or less, repair or replace the vibratory/steer pump.7. Reconnect hose to steering relief valve and refill hydraulic oil tank with clean hydraulic oil. C. System Pressure Test
1. Attach a 4000 psi (27,580 kPa) pressure gauge to the test port located on the rear of the steer system relief valve. 2. Start engine and run at full throttle. 3. Slowly begin turning steering wheel. 4. The pressure should increase and peak out at 2,000 psi (13,790 kPa) as steering cylinders reach their stops.5. Check steer valve and vibratory/steer pump if pressure does not reach 2,000 psi (13,790 kPa). If both steer valve and vibratory/steer pump are all right or pressure is high, adjust steering system relief valve.D. Steering Relief Valve Adjustment
1. Perform system pressure test as outlined in section C.2. Remove cap from end of relief valve adjusting screw. 3. Loosen locknut on adjusting screw. 4. Turn adjusting screw OUT (clockwise) to increase pressure. 5. Turn adjusting screw out (counter-clockwise) to decrease pressure. 6. Tighten locknut on adjusting screw. 7. Replace cap from end of relief valve adjusting screw. E. Steer Valve Pressure Test
1. Install a tee and a 4,000 psi (27,580 kPa) pressure gauge between the hydraulic line and the rear port of left steer cylinder. 2. Start the engine and run at full throttle. 3. Turn steering wheel clockwise to pressurize hydraulic line. 4. Pressure gauge should read about 2,000 psi (13,790 kPa).5. If pressure is low, check steer valve.F. Steer Cylinder Leakage Test
1. Start engine and run at full throttle. 2. Position machine in full right turn until cylinders are against their stops. 3. Shut machine "OFF". 4. Remove lines from ports "A" and "B". Install a 4,000 psi (27,580 kPa) pressure gauge in port "C". 5. Start engine and run at full throttle. 6. With pressure at relief, 2,000 psi (13,790 kPa), no more than a trickle of
