17. Remove bearing (20) from the oven and install on bevel pinion (23). 18. Install snap ring (21). 19. Attach transfer gear (22) to bevel pinion (23). 20. Install spacer (24) to transfer pinion gear with flat side down. 21. Assemble two 5/8 eye bolts to cover as shown. Place the cover over pinion (23). Assemble four guide pins (26) to the cover at the pinion cage bore. Match two original shim packs of equal thickness, 1.50 mm (0.060 inch) minimum, or use two new 9G-9295 Shim Packs. Record the thickness for use in step 31. Place the shim packs over guide pins (26). 22. Assemble cup (28) to cage (29) and install the cage to the cover as shown. Note the location of the oil passage. 23. Remove bearings (30) and (31) from the oven and install bearings (30), (31) and cup (32) to the pinion. 24. Assemble retainer (33) and bolts (34). 25. Raise the cover and install the plate and two bolts to secure cage (29) and the cover to the cover (25). Block the cover (25) and reposition the eye bolts for balance. 26. Remove race (35) from the freezer and install as shown. 27. Install dowel (37) (threaded end towards plug). Install race (38) in the case aligning dowel (37) to the notch (36). Install plug (39) to out side of case. 28. Assemble two guide pins (40) to the underside of cover (25) and assemble to the case. Remove two guide pins (40) and the two eyebolts from the cover. Secure the cover to the case with three bolts and washers. 29. Install three bolts (41), equally spaced, around the cover for the bearing cage. Tighten until the bolts are finger tight. Loosen or remove the bolts (42) that hold the cage to the larger cover. Rotate the pinion with a torque wrench, and note the required torque in pound inches. Evenly tighten the three bolts (41) until the torque that is required to turn the pinion remains at a level that is noticeably higher than the torque that was previously noted. Loosen the three bolts evenly, and remove the cover. Measure the projection of the bearing cup at three equally spaced locations. Average the reading. 30. Size the shim pack for the average projection that was determined in Step 29 minus 0.05 mm (0.002 inch). Oil the bearing with light machine oil, and install the shim pack. Torque the three bolts (41) that are equally spaced. Check the rolling torque against the specification of 5.6 1.1 N m (50 10 lb in). If necessary, add or remove shims in order to attain the specified rolling torque. Install the bolts (42), and torque the remaining three bolts (41) and the six 5/8 inch bolts (42). 31. The procedure to set the bevel pinion apex on the centerline of the bevel gear shaft requires the measurements to be taken from the iron. Calculations from the measurements and from dimensions supplied by
