Left Side of Machine, Inside Machine Frame (1) Rotor brake caliper (2) Service brake piston (3) Parking brake piston (4) DiskThe rotor brake is located on the drive line between the rotor clutch output shaft and the upper sheave. Rotor brake caliper (1) is equipped with service brake piston (2) and parking brake piston (3). These pistons act on disk (4) .Service brake piston (2) is hydraulically applied. Parking brake piston (3) is spring applied and hydraulically released. The auxiliary hydraulic system supplies oil for brake operation. The machine ECM controls brake operation. The brake solenoids are located on the center manifold.Note: For additional information about the auxiliary hydraulic pump and the center manifold, refer to the auxiliary hydraulic system in this module. When the rotor control switch on the instrument panel is in the OFF position, the service and parking brake are engaged. When the rotor control switch is in the NEUTRAL position, the service brake is engaged, and the parking brake is released. The machine ECM releases the service brake two seconds after the rotor control switch is moved into the ON position (provided that the switch had been in the NEUTRAL position for at least five seconds prior to being moved into the ON position).Rotor Brake Assembly

Rotor brake caliper (1) contains one section for the rotor rotor brake assembly parking brake and one section for the rotor service brake. The parking brake section of the caliper is spring applied, and hydraulically released. Reduced pressure oil from the auxiliary pump enters the parking brake piston chamber. The pressure which acts against the piston compresses the spring stacks in order to release the brake.Note: The spring stacks are a series of Belleville washers stacked together. The service brake section of rotor brake caliper (1) is spring released and hydraulically applied. This brake prevents the viscous drag in the system from turning the friction plates and disks in the rotor clutch while the clutch is in the NEUTRAL position. The service brake is not as powerful as the parking brake.
