Attach a suitable lifting device onto Tooling (A). Remove screw (17). Use Tooling (A) and the suitable lifting device to remove king pin (10). The weight of king pin (10) is approximately 270 kg (595 lb).

Use Tooling (B) and a suitable fork truck to remove front wheel and brake assembly (16) from the machine and position onto the ground. The weight of Tooling (B) and front wheel and brake assembly (16) is approximately 4518 kg (9961 lb).

Remove inner thrust ring (18) and outer thrust ring (19).

Use Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to rotate Tooling (B) and front wheel and brake assembly (16) to a vertical position onto suitable cribbing. The weight of Tooling (B) and front wheel and brake assembly (16) is approximately 4518 kg (9961 lb).

If it is necessary to remove the steering arm, use the following step.
Attach Tooling (D) and a suitable lifting device onto steering arm (20). The weight of steering arm (20) is approximately 386 kg (850 lb). Remove nuts (21). Remove steering arm (20).

Remove upper bushing (22).

Remove lower bushing (23).

Remove thrust washer (25) from the axle.

Remove bushing (26), bushing (27), and bushing (28).

Remove roll pin (29) from the front axle.Installation Procedure
Install front wheel and brake assembly (16) in the reverse order of removal.
Lower the temperature of bushing (23), bushing (22), bushing (26), bushing (27), and bushing (28) for installation.
Insert the chamfered edge of bushing (28) into the bore first.
Apply assembly grease onto the inside diameter of bushing (23), bushing (22), bushing (26), bushing (27), bushing (28), the outside diameter of king pin (10), and the top surface of the chrome thrust ring (19) for installation.
Install bushing (23) with the parting slit outboard. Install bushing (23) with the parting slit inboard.
Install bushing (23) flush with the outer surface.
Verify the length of set screw (17) prior to installing. Apply Loctite to the outboard 19 mm (0.75 inch) then torque to 678 10 mm (27 0.40 inch) after torquing to seal against water and debris.
Center the gap of bushing (27) with the set screw hole.
Insert the chamfered edge of bushing (28) into the bore first when installing.
Install pin (29) to a depth of 38.1 mm (1.5 inch) or 12.7 mm (0.5 inch) exposed.
Install pins (24) to a depth of 57.1 mm (2.3 inch) or 6.4 mm (0.3 inch) exposed.
Pins (24) are to engage thrust ring (19) to 6.352 mm (0.25 inch).End By:
