Schematic of the Cat Data LinkThis diagnostic code is recorded when the Engine ECM is not sending parameters to the Implement ECM at the proper rate. The update rate for parameters that are generated by the Engine ECM is not correct.The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:
The data link circuit has an open circuit.
The data link circuit is shorted to battery ground.
The Engine ECM is not operating properly.
The software for the Engine ECM has been erased.
The Engine ECM has the wrong software.System Response:
Fluid Level Monitoring may not work properly.Note: Ensure that CID 0590 FMI 09 is inactive. If a diagnostic code for the data link is active, correct this diagnostic code. If this diagnostic code is inactive, then check the Engine ECM for proper operation and active diagnostic codes.Test Step 1. CHECK THE DATA LINK CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the connector of the machine harness J1 from the Implement ECM. Disconnect the connector of the machine harness J1 from the Engine ECM.
Inspect the harness connectors and clean all of the contacts of the harness connectors. Refer to the illustration above in order to check the connection of the Cat Data Link on each of the machine harness connectors. Ensure that the wires are secured in the connector and in good condition.
At the disconnected harness connectors, measure the resistance from contact J1-10 (wire 893-GN) of the Implement ECM to contact J1-8 (wire 893-GN) of the Engine ECM.
At the disconnected harness connectors, measure the resistance from contact J1-20 (wire 892-BR) of the Implement ECM to contact J1-9 (wire 892-BR) of the Engine ECM.Expected Result:Both of the resistance measurements are less than 5 ohms.Results:
OK - Both of the resistance measurements are less than 5 ohms. The Cat Data Link circuit in the machine harness is not open. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - At least one of the resistance measurements is more than 5 ohms.Repair: There is an open or a bad connection in the Cat Data Link circuit in the machine harness. Refer to the complete Electrical System Schematic of the machine. Locate all the connectors and examine all of the connectors of the machine harness that are involved in the data link circuit. Check each wire that is involved in the circuit for an open or a bad connection. Ensure that all connections are clean, that all connections are secure and that all connections are in good condition. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE REMAINS.
Inspect the harness connectors. Clean the contacts of the harness connectors and check the wires for damaged insulation caused by excessive heat, battery acid, or chafing.
Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each of the wires that are associated with the circuit.
Reconnect all harness connectors in order to make sure that the connectors are fully seated. Also, make sure that the clips for each connector are
