Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General Hazard Information" for information on containing fluid spillage.Note: Used filters should always be disposed of according to local regulations.
Park the machine on level ground and turn off the engine.
Clean the area around each filter in order to keep dirt out of the hydraulic system.
Use the procedures below in order to replace the following hydraulic oil filters:
Main Hydraulic Filters
Tank Breather Filter
Return Filters
Charge FilterNote: After all of the hydraulic filters have been replaced, check the hydraulic oil level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Level - Check".Main Hydraulic Filters

The hydraulic loop filters are located in front of the base of the mast.
(1) FiltersFor routine maintenance, perform the following procedure:
Turn off the engine to release hydraulic pressure, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "System Pressure Release".
Open the plug at the top of the filter one and a half turns.
Remove the plug at the bottom and drain the fluid into a suitable container.
Once the fluid has drained, reinstall and retighten both plugs.
Remove the bowl and inspect the filter inside. Look for any significant visible contamination. Contamination could be an early sign of potential failure.
Discard the filter and the associated O-ring.
Inspect the filter housing and the bypass valve for possible damage and determine if any component replacement is necessary.
Remove any dirt from the housing. Do not let any contaminant enter the outlet.
Check that the bowl O-rings are not damaged. Lubricate the thread and sealing surfaces of the new filter with system fluid.
Put the filter into the bowl open end first.

Insert reusable metal core (2) and O-rings (3).Note: Ensure that the metal core is properly inserted on the filter.
Tighten bowl onto the head. Do not over tighten.
Pressurize the system and check for any leaks.Tank Breather Filter

(4) Tank breather filter
Remove the used tank breather filter.
Install the new tank breather filter by hand.Return Filters

(5) Return FiltersThere are two return filters on the hydraulic tank
Shutdown machine and depressurize the system.
Unscrew and remove the filter cover from the head. Use a socket wrench on the hexagon on the filter cover to loosen the cover.
Remove the filter and inspect for contamination. Contamination could indicate potential failure.
Discard the filter and the associated O-ring.
Check the O-rings on the head assembly and replace as necessary before replacing the filter.
Lubricate the thread on the filter with clean hydraulic fluid, then screw the filter into the head assembly.
Pressurize the system and check for leaks.Charge Filter
