Many optional features have been added to the design of the original service harness used for the above engines that contain the Electronic Ignition System (EIS). As a result, some of these new features require additional wiring within the original harness. Because of the numerous combinations of possible options it is impractical to provide only one service harness.
In order to minimize the total number of service harnesses while at the same time accommodate as many applications as possible, it has become necessary to group wiring into four main engine categories. These four categories are:
* Electrical Power Generation (EPG)* Industrial* Landfill* CoGenEach category contains wiring for its most often used options while excluding wires of its least used options. As a result, any given service harness may contain unused wires and connectors while requiring the customer to provide custom wiring for the lessor used options. Each of the four main engine categories identifies a service harness for a particular application. Refer to Chart 1 in order to determine which part number is required for a particular engine category.
The REFERENCE Special Instruction "Selection Of Service Harness For Engines With Electronic Ignition System", SEHS9954, provides additional information and instruction that is necessary in order to select a service harness with respect to a particular G3500 Engine.
Selection Of Miscellaneous Parts Kit
G3500 EIS Engines were built with two slightly different harness designs. The two designs are differentiated by the terms "early build" harnesses and "current production" harnesses. A 131-2217 Harness Parts Kit of miscellaneous hardware pieces has been provided for all "early build" harnesses and is not required when servicing engines with "current production" harnesses. Refer to Chart 2 in order to determine which design is appropriate for a particular serial number.
